    Hello All;
    Great BBS, this is my first post!
    I am helping a friend set up their brand new gaming center.

    She has 10 desktops with XP home.
    Steam certficates have been purchased.

    When attempting to load the certs on these desktops from the Steam site I get the following error:
    error- 0x80090016-2146893802
    I know this error msg is very informative::confused:

    Searching the MS XP knowledge base I found an entry that says I need to change permissions on the Microsoft\Crypto\RSA\MachineKeys folder. Any words of wisdom would be great.

    I was able to load the Steam cert on a box with XP Pro in the gaming center. So I believe that my problem is not issues with the router ports or router firmware.

    Please help!

    Hello;
    Still stumped by this certificate problem.
    I was able to load the steam certificate in the gaming cafe on a server that is running XP Pro.

    Any intelligence on why XP Pro would work and XP home would fail???

    Where can I get some hints on this problem?
    The Steam folks are not responsive and their trouble shooting section of their web sites is sparse. I manually added UDP ports and ITP ports on the XP home PC (per the Steam website) but still not working.

    Help please!

    Your problem is more then likely caused by the fact that you aren't logged into the Administrator account, which - on XP Home - you can only do from safe mode (or another round-about = unsupported - way)

    As their instructions read:

    When I look at the user accnt info that I am logged in with, it is listed an Computer Administrator.

    We took these PCs out of the box from Dell. We have not defined multiple user accnts on the boxes. Only 1, and as I said it is called the Computer Administrator.

    Is that only a lame name and not really the admin??

    Arie is THE MAN

    Hello Arie;
    What you suggested was right on the money!
    One cannot do admin type things (ie changing privilges on directories) when logged in normally on XP HOME.

    Yup, gotta go safe mode and THEN you can do admin type things.

    Thank you.
    Did I tell you that YOU ARE THE MAN :)

    (Sorry for taking so long to get back to you, been doing some traveling.)
