Please help! I've been trying and trying to clean up disk space by using the disk cleanup tool--the actual process works just fine but it won't get rid of the files! So I run it, and go back and run it again and nothing has been cleaned--all the same files are still there. What's going on and how do I fix this? Thank you!

Which section of Disk CLeanup isn't cleaning?
Have to ask-> Is there a Check Mark in the box to the left?

Yep the boxes are checked. What doesn't get cleaned is the compress old files and webclient/publisher temporary files. No matter how many times I run it and try to clean these up, they don't go away. Thanks.

compress old files doesn't remove files, it compresses old files. Depending on the size and number of files, it can take hours to compress...I generally skip that option since i have som much free disk space...

What is the "file size" for webclient/publisher when you do cleanup?

XP Disk Cleanup "Cleanmgr" is hindered by Compressed old files Calculation

    So do the next:

Remove Compress old files calculation (totally useless)

    http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

go to #48 get the one on the right. To get it do not left click it but Rt click and chose Save As and save to Desktop. Then dbl click and approve both responses.

Before running Cleanmgr go to run command and type
    cleanmgr /sageset:99
then check all entries you wish to clean usually all click OK!

From then on from the run command type
    cleanmgr /sagerun:99

You can create a shortcut on desktop by rt click blank desktop then click New then shortcut and copy and paste cleanmgr /sagerun:99 or type it into this line and click next then name it Cleanup.

Other cleaners that clean much deeper
    DiskCleaner
    http://www.xs4all.nl/~mp2004/a_install/dcsetup.exe
    Check all boxes

    ATF-Cleaner
    http://www.atribune.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=25&Itemid=25

    CCleaner
    http://www.ccleaner.com/download/builds
    Get slim version at bottom
    clean temps and registry

Run these and if you still have issues it is not because of cleanup issues.
