    0x80070057: The parameter is incorrect

When I try and download a book onto my audio player [overdrive media console from the public library], I get the following error message: 0x80070057: The parameter is incorrect. I'm using IE6, XP Home. I've searched on line; however, there are so many responses to this question because of different circumstances that none of them seem to apply to my problem. Advice would be helpful. Thank you.

    2 Questions

Thank you. Two questions: 1. Can you recommend the way to back up your registry just in case things go awry? 2. The Microsoft site says this:
you must append the string A;;0x2;;;S-1-5-11 to the CustomSD registry entry on each server . Do I literally insert/append that string "A;;0x2;;;S-1-5-11" into the registry string? Or am I to interpret "A" for something else, etc.?

    1. When you go into regedit, go to File>Export and export your Registry somewhere safe. You can Import it later if you get into trouble.
    2. You'll have to wait for someone more experienced than I am.
    Sorry.
Edit: After reading it again, I think they would have mentioned if you had to substitute something else for "A ". But, it's your computer!!!

True. I followed the steps re: registry editing; however, I got to step 3, "right click CustomSD." However, there is no "CustomSD" in the right panel or any panel. Any thoughts on this? I know it's a pretty far-out question that I'm asking. I'm hoping maybe you've done some registry work so as to show me where I'm going wrong.

To work around this problem, you must append the string A;;0x2;;;S-1-5-11 to the CustomSD registry entry on each server that is running the Provisioning Engine. The CustomSD registry entry is located in the following registry subkey:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Eventlog\Application
To do this, follow these steps:1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and the click OK.
    2. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Eventlog\Application
    3. In the right pane, right-click CustomSD, and then click Modify.
    4. In the Edit String dialog box, append the following string to the value that appears in the Value data box:
    A;;0x2;;;S-1-5-11
    5. On the File menu, click Exit.

I have no "CustomSD" in mine either.
On further reading I see this:
    STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.

    And this:

    APPLIES TO
    • Microsoft Provisioning System

Doesn't make any sense to me .
Maybe we should wait for someone more knowledgeable to drop in. I thimk I'm a little out of my depth.

    mickzer.

I’m trying to download a book onto my audio player [overdrive media console from the public library], I get the following error message: 0x80070057: The parameter is incorrect. I'm using IE6, XP Home. One of the fellows offered this advice: Go to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/899194, which is a registry tweak. The instructions say this:
To work around this 0x80070057 problem, you must append the string A;;0x2;;;S-1-5-11 to the CustomSD registry entry on each server that is running the Provisioning Engine. The CustomSD registry entry is located in the following registry subkey:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Eventlog\Application
To do this, follow these steps:1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and the click OK.
    2. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Eventlog\Application
    3. In the right pane, right-click CustomSD, and then click Modify.
    4. In the Edit String dialog box, append the following string to the value that appears in the Value data box:
    A;;0x2;;;S-1-5-11
    5. On the File menu, click Exit.

I followed the steps re: registry editing; however, I got to step 3, "right click CustomSD." However, there is no "CustomSD" in the right panel or any panel. Any thoughts on where the "CustomSD" entry is in the registry? I’m assuming, of course, that this registry formula will address my 0x80070057 problem.
