Hi. I recently reformatted my HD and reinstalled Windows 95b to deal with a malware issue. Also upgraded to IE 5.5 sp2, performing a custom install and making sure to add the Java VM and Shockwave/Flash players as I have an important software training program which uses IE together with JVM and Shockwave/Flash.

Unfortunately, after installing the training program its player wouldn't load any lessons. While troubleshooting the software I discovered there were no ActiveX objects or controls for JVM, Shockwave, or Flash in the Downloaded Program Files folder. I guess that's why the lessons won't run.

Starting with Shockwave, I did some research at the Adobe website and tried all of the troubleshooting tips I could find there without resolving the problem. When reinstalling Shockwave 8 using the standalone installer a window comes up informing me that I've installed the software successfully, but the little animation which indicates a successful install doesn't play.

I've done a lot of research on the web--including this site--but haven't had much luck with this particular issue. All of the references I've found are for newer versions of Windows and IE which might not apply to the setup I'm running.

This problem is especially frustrating because the training software worked fine with my previous Win95 installation using IE 5.5 sp1. I really need to get this program working again asap so any assistance will be greatly appreciated. Please let me know if you can help in any way.

In the course of my research I found a reference to a related problem that might have a bearing on what I'm dealing with. I checked the properties of the following .dll files on my PC and they appear to be Windows 2000 versions:

    BROWSEUI.DLL
    SHDOCVW.DLL
    SHELL32.DLL
    ACTXPRXY.DLL
    MSHTML.DLL
    URLMON.DLL

I'm not using Win2K. Might it be possible that I could solve my problem by replacing these .dll files with versions intended for my Windows OS?
