had a brain fart this morning when I had my external backup drive connected to a machine that i was rebuilding xp on. when it got to the part to delete the drives on the machine i forgot i still had my external drive attached and pow i removed it. its not a super big deal cuz the data on the drive was old but if possible would be nice to be able to recover the partition of the xternal drive and the data that was on it. have looked at a bunch of utils but need someones knowledge in this area. so again i need a program thats not going to cost an arm and leg and would be nice if can use more than once just in case i have another brain fart. so need to recover the partition table and all the folders that were on the xternal drive.

    any thought ???

tonyt - i dont know if those will work because they are just file recovery programs i believe i first need the ability to recover the partition table first. and really i think if the partition table was recovered everything else would just be there again like never removed.

correct me please if i am wrong....greg

    topfarmer - cool handle there.

yep, it was only deleted it was not reformatted. i caught my mistake just before the building of xp began and unhocked the xternal drive. i will give that one a shot. thanks.

Test disk is the best 1st shot, and next best shot is PC Inspector File Recovery, which can be run after the op sys has been installed.

your the man. that program worked beautifully. took a bit to figure out what to do with it but it brought the partition table back and like i thought once the table was back everything on the drive should reappear and it did. thanks much. thats a very useful util.
