How can you release a current ip address permanently in DHCP in XP Pro ?
I've tried using ipconfig /release and then ipconfig /renew , but the stupid thing just gets the address , the address that was assigned to it before

    Any Help Greatly Appreciated

DHCP works on a lease process. For example:
Server gives client a 3 day lease
Client uses it for 1 day and shuts down.
The client releases the IP back to the DHCP pool during shutdown.
When the client is powered back up the next day it knows it still had 2 more days of a DHCP lease. It broadcasts for a DHCP address. If it gets the same server handing out IP addresses, the client requests the same IP. If the IP address is still available, the server will grant another 3 day lease for it. If it isn't then the client has to negotiate for a new IP address.
