Word 2002 defaults to A6, screws up labels

When I recently replaced my old worn out Dell with a shiny new Vista OS Dell, I ran into some driver problems. (Duh. Who didn't?) I installed Word 2002, and it mostly runs okay, but I've got this weird problem. All my old documents are now set to Paper Size A6. New documents also start off with A6 paper size as the default, but I was finally able to change that to letter. (I'm now in the habit of always checking the paper size before I print, and changing paper size to letter.)

The problem is that I have not been able to change this A6 default in trying to print labels. When I go to "Letters and Mailings" then "Envelopes and Labels ", then the labels tab, everything looks fine to print Avery standard 5160 size labels. But when I go to print, only a portion of the middle column will print - the same area that would be covered if I printed on A6 paper. I'm printing on a Sharp AL-1642CS copier that handled labels just fine with Word 2002 until I switched to a Vista machine.

Not sure if it is a Vista problem or a Word problem, but this seemed like the right place to start.

Sorry to sound so negative, but I don't think anyone is going to find the right answer on this one! (I basically have given up on running labels and just print directly to the envelope instead. But I'd prefer to return to labels since envelopes wear out the rollers.) Thanks!

Thanks for the links, but I installed the Vista driver for my printer as soon as Sharp made one available.

I suggest you contact Sharp support - I don't think I can help further - still running XP :)

Thanks. I talked to them recently and they didn't have a clue. It actually seems to be a problem with Word rather than the printer, but I guess it's really the interaction between the two. (Which usually means driver...)

For what it's worth, I only briefly used XP with this printer and software combo. (And on my home computer I never went to XP. I ran ME until I decided to switch to Vista. If there's a bad OS out there, I can find it!)

Have you installed all the Office 2002 Service Packs?

If you use Microsoft Update as opposed to Windows update you will be offered updates for Office - if appropriate.

This may be part of the problem: the updates for Word 2002 will not run with Vista. (i.e. they no longer support Word 2002, unless you have XP or older.)

Edit: I should note that my version of Word 2002 is SP3.
