Hey Pete C: I think I may of figured it out! I tried to manually install the update on this computer to see what would happen and this is what I get: "the version on your computer is newer than the version you are trying to install" STOP.....maybe that is all the problem amounts to. Den......

I think you were offered that update 'in error' - I checked both my desktop XP Pro SP3 amd laptop XP Pro SP2 for that update using Belarc Advisor and it was not found on either (all this Patch Tuesday's updates installed).

Downloaded the update and tried to install on the laptop - same version of IE 7 as yours and received the same error message.

I would not lose any sleep over it - possibly IE 6 was flagged erroneously, but that's pure guesswork :)

Edit - typed the above before seeing your last post.

I had the same problem, even tried manually downloading but still wouldn't work. Seen this site

    http://www.eggheadcafe.com/software/aspnet/31980827/error-0x8007f0f4-when-ins.aspx

and followed this suggestion timed 12-Apr-08 04:17:55 near foot of page

    1. Download/install Windows Script 5.7 for WinXP SP2 (only!):
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=47809025-d896-482e-a0d6-524e7e844d81

    2. Then make sure the machine is otherwise fully patched at WIndows Update

    and it worked OK.
