    I really need help :(

I've had numerous problems with my computer, and the internet.

I run on 256k speed, which isn't so good but the problems i'm currently experiencing have nothing to do with the speed.

Pages just DON'T load! Only some pages do, and it was so bad i had to get someone to help me make this account to get onto this forum because i can't even access my hotmail inbox to verify my registration here.

It's crazy! I've had many problems with a previous hard drive, so i'm using a temporary pathetic hard drive of 9GB, until i get a new one for my birthday, along with a better computer on april 22.

    Aside from that, my problem.

I've tried formatting the computer numerous times, which is quite stupid of me since this is an internet problem. I tried disabling javascript, but pages still refuse to respond. On previous partitions i had other problems. But right now, it's just pages not responding. Mozilla Firefox claims that the pages take too long to respond, therefore displaying nothing but that error message.

And i do need to access sites, especially because this is a newly formatted partition, i need to download macromedia flash player, and some other critical installations. Problem is, i can't. I couldn't even download the Java runtime environment thing...

The odd thing is, Msn messenger works, yet barely anything else does.

My runescape client that directly connects to the website, seems to not want to work, but instead says i need to close the program, and then it prompts me to send the error message.

I really need your help guys... I do.

I find it hard to believe it is a virus because i installed Windows + service pack 2 from the same disk onto the partition straight away. I did not foolishly linger on the internet with SP1 like i had done in previous partitions leading to viruses and all that junk.

But why do i still get irresponsive pages? I just want to surf the internet and get my schoolwork done, i'm having a hard time as it is..

    Please, someone help me!!

Have you tried clearing your computer of spyware? This can really drag down the speed. Try Ad-Aware and/or Spybot Search & Destroy (both are free).

    I can't..

You see, i had them both on the previous partition....

Now i only have ad-aware SE personal 2007 and it seems to do nothing but find privacy cookies, but no critical objects.

I scanned with spybot on my previous partition which was experiencing the same problem and it found nothing.

I started finding this DIL2.tmp in my temp files, and i looked it up and it was deemed as dangerous, there were numerous other DIL files like DIL4.tmp and DIL6.tmp.

I had reason to believe these were the cause.

I had scanned with Ikarus virus utilities, and it found quite a bit, but it's so laggy i couldnt really work properly.

For some reason, Explorer.exe came up in the infected files list and i accidentally DELETED it. So in my experience and knoledge, i had no choice but to format the computer, because i have little knoledge on how to use the recovery console, or any command prompt or stuff like that..

and now i can't download spybot because my pages dont respond. for some reason only CERTAIN pages respond. Such as this one, but i cant access my inbox, or download certain things.

I was able to download Ikarus, but it was not able to connect to the internet to download microsoft framework so it could install?

You mention the recovery console. Have you tried going past the first offer to repair the operating system (which takes you to the recovery console)? If you decline the first offer and just ask to install windows, the windows boot disk will then tell you it has found a previous installation and offer to repair that. Accept that offer and it will repair your OS (it looks as if it is installing your OS but finishes with all your other files intact). This is all very straightforward (unlike the recovery console).

Yes, i have done so, but this time when i repaired, when windows was installed, i was honestly happy to be back!

The system rebooted after windows was installed.

It for some reason asked me to login as my user, which i never really asked the computer to prompt me with.

I pressed enter, it said logging me in, then it just logged me out again and left me back at that menu once again..

So i could not get into windows, i was sick and tired of all this junk, so i decided to wipe EVERYTHING.

And now, i'm still having problems with my new installations, i went into services.msc and shutdown the automatic updates process because i believed it was lagging me, but i'm still getting irresponsive pages, and for some reason, its the same few pages. Usually pages that requires the process of information like logging in, or verifying something.

I can't even get the macromedia flash player download box open, yet i can get Ikarus's download box open for download.

Yet Ikarus can't seem to connect to its site to download updates?

    It's crazy..

There is something going on here that is outside my knowledge without actually having the computer in front of me. It may be possible that a virus is still active or that some of what you have done has damaged the registry. I'm sure that someone with much more knowledge than me will be along shortly. In the meantime, to save them asking, what version of Windows are you using?

A format erases all data on a partition, thus, if you did this, you would have no viruses or malware UNLESS the XP cd you have is a bootleg infected copy or some software you install is infected to begin with. A fresh install on a formatted partition using a genuine Windows install media will have NO viruses or malware IF the network cable is unplugged during the install. (there are certain network malware that can infect fresh installs immediately, such as code red worm)
