Thanks to some excellent advice earlier, I've been able to block most cookies using IE6. But there are two from one source that keep getting set.

The full path of the cookies when Ad Aware finds them is:
    C:\windows\cookies\default@servedby.advertising[1].txt
    C:\windows\cookies\default@servedby.advertising[2].txt

I have put the following into the IE6 restricted sites function:
    default@servedby.advertising[1].txt
    default@servedby.advertising[2].txt
    www.servedby.advertising[1].txt
    www.servedby.advertising[2].txt
    *.advertising[1].txt
    *.advertising[2].txt

The &%#*@ things are still getting set. What am I missing here?

    Thanks.

What you need to do is open each of those files (they're text files) and look at the text string to determine the true name of the sender's site. Look for something like something.com or something.net. It will have one or the other of those two suffixes, either net or com. That's what you need to put in the restricted list.

I block the one you used for your example. It requires both suffixes. advertising.com and advertising.net

Some other good ones to put in there are:

    fastclick.net
    fastclick.com
    doubleclick.net
    doubleclick.com
    valueclick.net
    valueclick.com

Try that, it'll stop most all that you'll commonly run into. Ad-Aware may catch a new one someday though. When it does, don't delete it, just copy the name and go visit the cookie folder and find that text file it names and open it. Get the real site name from inside and away you go. Once you place that name in the restricted sites list, it automatically deletes it from the cookie folder. You can run Ad-Aware again and it won't show up, even though you didn't allow it to be deleted last time.

    Good luck

    Try this:
    *.servedby.advertising.net
    or
    *.servedby.advertising.com

Thanks, all. Those cookies are now being blocked. Thanks for explaining how to enter effective blocks.
