After I upgraded to IE 7, a problem arose that I didn't notice at first until a friend pointed out that images on her web site were non-existent in my browser. I thought it was just her web site even though I had been able to see them several months before. But, since then I have been doing a lot of research online for business and realized that random images just don't show up on lots of web sites.

It also happens on my spouse's computer which is linked with my Internet connection through a wireless adapter. Could it be IE 7 or is it more likely my Linksys WRT54G router?

I just need to know which direction to go - and if I'm lucky someone will have a solution.

BTW - I have Windows XP. Also there are no red Xs where the images should be. They're just not there.

    Thanks!!

In your internet options under Multimedia make sure that everything is checked. You can unselect aspects later if you want but let's make sure that everything is enabled.

    Checked

    Thanks for answering my post.

I confirmed my selections, but I had checked that in the beginning. I even verified with my friend that she and I had exactly the same options checked.

I always run virus scans, but yesterday I went to Microsoft and ran their Malicious Software Removal Tool to check everything. Nothing.

The other complaints I've seen about missing images all have had the red Xs in place of the image. You wouldn't know mine were missing unless you knew they were supposed to be there.

I have a hunch that this may be a script issue. Is your friend using Java or JavaScript to display the images? Since they are putting them up they should be able to answer.

I build sites so have actually seen this issue a bit. IE7 does not handle things quite the same as earlier versions of IE did. While IE7 comes closer to the web standards it can cause issues with site code that was written specifically for earlier versions of IE.

    Used a utility

The other day I downloaded that User Agent String Utility that makes Internet Explorer 7 appear to be Internet Explorer 6 to sites that mistake Internet Explorer 7 for an out-of-date version. I activated it and opened my friend's site as it instructed, but the images are still missing.

I'm assuming this is what you're talking about??

My friend's site is built in Joomla. However, I am having trouble with sites other than hers. Random images and forms are not appearing on random sites.

No, that is not what I meant. I was thinking mostly JavaScript that may be being used to show the images. I don't think that the script you installed would have an affect on this.

Do you know enough about web site code that you could use 'View source' and post a section that should show an image but doesn't? Also could you send a link for a site along with a description of what and where an image that does not show should be?

At the bottom of this post is the right column script for www.NetworkingEntrepreneurs.com. Where you see the words Charter Lifetime Sponsors, there should be two images that are showing up on everyone else's computers. One is for MindSlapOnline.com and the other for TheJoyofConnecting.com. Neither shows up on mine.
I used the IE DEveloper Toolbar to see if the image info was there. Didn't see it. Thanks!

    J..
I posted a reply with the source script, but it said it would have to be approved by the moderator. In case it never shows up, the website is www.NetworkingEntrepreneurs.com. The images are on the right column of the home page. One is for MindSlapOnline.com and the other for TheJoyofConnecting.com. These are both listed under Charter Lifetime Sponsors.
    Thanks!

Just going to use one example.

The code in red is what you included as source code. The longer version below that is what I see in IE7. Note the <!-- --> in your code. In the code I see it is an image call. You are not seeing the image as it isn't called.

I suspect that this is a settings issue but am not sure which. Are you running IE in protected mode? If so try setting it to off.

    <a href= "http://www.mindslaponline.com/" target= "_blank "><!-- --></a>

    <a href= "http://www.mindslaponline.com/" target= "_blank "><img src= "http://www.networkingentrepreneurs.com/images/banners/mindslap160.jpg" alt= "MindSlap! - Dannye Williamsen - Life is about Creating Yourself!" border= "0 "></a>

Yeah, I realized that it was just eliminating the image code for some reason.

When you talk about running IE in protected mode and turning it off, I don't know what you're referring to. Can you tell me where that setting is or how to turn it off? I assume you're talking about Internet Options, but I don't know which setting.
    Thanks!

If you look on the task bar for IE7 you will see the words 'Protected Mode:' with either on or off after. If on just double click on it and uncheck the option from the resulting dialog.

Bless Your Heart! That was it!
I went into McAfee Firewall, then web browsing protection. Clicked to allow advertisements and voila! The images appeared.
    You made my day!

This is the best help forum I've ever been in!

    Thanks!
