Trying to install Adobe Reader 8.1.2, but keep getting Error 1714 that the older version of 8.1.2 cannot be removed.

Not only can I not remember ever installing an older 8.1.2, but I can't find it in order to remove it, so Add/Remove Programs is useless here. I've deleted just about every instance of Adobe I can find, but still get the error message.

Been to Adobe's website, and the only thing I haven't tried is that Microsoft Installer Cleanup thing, which terrifies me.

Being unable to read pdf files is a catastrophy. And, neither Word nor Word Perfect will convert such files without Adobe being loaded.

    I'm desperate guys! Help!
