Programs starting minimized

Hello all,
I have a peculiar problem on a PC here at work. Some when I start some programs (Adobe Acrobat reader, Tugzip are a couple) that are set to start in a normal window they start minimized to the task bar. If I then try to maximize them they go through the animation of maximizing, but to the top left of the screen and then are gone - almost like they are going to another monitor (there is only one monitor hooked to this machine). I can then click on the program on the task bar and it will minimize again. This happens when starting the program from the short cut or from double clicking on a file that uses the program (i.e. a PDF file).
If I set the short cut to open the program in a maximized window then it works fine either from a short cut or from a file.

I have searched the net and have not found anything that describes this - any ideas? Thanks.

Check that a second monitor is not enabled. Control Panel -> Display -> Settings tab, highlight/click the number 2 screen and uncheck the "Extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor" checkbox.

The system may be using the wrong resolution. Change the resolution using the graphics adapter's software, usually found in the Notification Tray, not in Windows Display settings (above).

Thanks for the reply mattman. I looked at both suggestions and both were ok. Just for fun, I tried setting the shortcut properties for Acrobat Reader back to open in a normal window and it opened in a maximized window. I tried the same for Tugzip and it too opened in a maximized window, but when I clicked on the Restore Down button it reverted to the old behavior. Then when I right click on the program on the task bar it would let me minimize or close. After minimizing, right click on the program in the taskbar and the choices were close and restore.

I'm scratching my head so much on this one I'm going more bald than I already am!
