    Hi there!

My dad recently installed 1gb of memory on his laptop, but Windows and Aida32 is still adamant that the extra 1gb doesn't exist, yet an online systems tool says that there is 1.2gb of memory. The version is 32 bit, so any ideas?

Hi and welcome to the BBS,

First thing I would check is that the system does not have a limit of say, 1GB. It will tell you in the manual/User Guide or if you do a websearch for the laptop's model number along with the term "specifications ".

If the RAM manufacturer is one of the major brands, they should have a listing as to what types/sizes are suitable, at their website.

If the old RAM can be removed, try removing it.

Check it is seated correctly and be careful not to touch the connectors (they can be cleaned, carefully, with a soft pencil eraser).

    Matt
