When I open Windows Explorer it would always open with My Documents expanded. Today I open Explorer and it highlights My Documents but the "+" is there and its not expanded. I've searched everywhere for an answer. I've rebooted, I've tried all the "tips" on the forums but nothing works. Here is what I have in my properties:

    %SystemRoot%\explorer.exe
    %HOMEDRIVE%%HOMEPATH%

I want explorer to open with My Documents highlighted and expanded like it was (default).

    Thanks.

Thanks...I tried all the command line switches there....it did not fix it. It seems most people want to change it from MyDocuments...I want it to go back to default and expanded. It seems like maybe this is a registry issue?

    Try changing the target to:

    C:\WINDOWS\explorer.exe /n,/e,/root,/select,%userprofile%\My Documents

copy/paste to eliminate any possible error in typing, etc.

Thanks.. I tried it and its alot closer then I've been but now it opens up My Documents in the "C:\Documents and Settings\USER\My Documents" area which is not at the top level. I've gotten it to open with My Documents highlighted but it will not expand on startup...I have to hit the "+ "...I got used to the default view and somehow it changed.

Does the same thing as the above suggestion...not top level. I thought this was gonna be an easy fix but I guess I found myself a challenging fix.

Thanks for all the suggestions....I'm willing to try more :)

Win Explorer->Tools->Folder Options->View Tab->Place a check mark in the "display simple folder view" box.

It was already checked...I unchecked & rechecked...same result. I just checked my other computers... made sure all of them were the same and they are.
Could it be a registry issue?

Everything you do makes an entry(s) to the registry. So in theroy, the answer would be Yes.

At least you're just one little click away from being where you want to be:)

I'm having the EXACT SAME PROBLEM.

Once, many, many moons ago, I believe I recall playing around with a registry entry to force XP's "Windows Explorer" to open with "My Documents" collapsed, and "My Computer" expanded. This worked fine, and is usually what I want for my HOME computer. But I made the same change on my work system, and now I find regret it.

As the previous poster indicated, I can find LOTS of info on how to change the default behavior of "Windows Explorer" to what I already have, but nothing on how to change it back!

    Any help would be appreciated.
