For at least the second time this semester, I have forgotten to bring my adapter to class and had my lecture notes shut off, as my laptop had no power. I know I know I could do something practical like actually print out my lecture notes but for whatever reason I wanna do things the hard way and get an adapter I can keep in my laptop carrying case 24/7. I was thinking of getting a unversal adapter (so I can use this when I get a newer laptop some years from now), but I called a local computer store and I was told they don't sell them any more, b/c too many laptops blew up, and she assured me that her personal recommendation would be never to plug one into my laptop. Dell wants $65 plus shipping for an exact duplicate of the adapter I already have. I can get universals on ebay for $20 including shipping; amazon will sell my adapter for $28.

My question: are universal adapters really that much of a risk? I'd love to save some cash and possibly a future adapter purchase when I buy my next laptop, if I can use this one for future laptops.

If you can get an adaptor that has matching OutPut/InPut numbers you might avoid blowing up your current machine...Odds are it won't have the same specs as the next pc.

Might be cheaper to place a yellow reminder sticky on your front door:eek:

Who has time to read when you're racing out the front door?

OK I think I'll just stick with the cheaper adapter from Amazon that was designed for this laptop.

    Do you like your notebook?

Then stick with the adapter that was made for it from Dell. Do not be fooled by imitations...
