    Hello all, Im trying to install XP Pro on a Panasonic Toughbook. It was originally installed with XP and worked fine, Im just trying to clean everything off of it and start fresh since its a work computer it will be used for different applications than before.

    My problem is when XP asks for the product key and I entered it I get the error message "the Product Id you entered is not valid ":eek:. I put the disk in my PC and searched it for the product key, got the unattend.txt file off the CD this is what I get

    [UserData]
    FullName = "Your User Name "
    OrgName = "Your Organization Name "
    ComputerName = *
    ProductKey= "xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxx "

    any ideas on how to make it work or why I would be running into a problem?

    When reading the whole txt file the beginning part has this message

    ; Sample Unattended Setup Answer File
    ;
    ; This file contains information about how to automate the installation
    ; or upgrade of Windows Codename Whistler so the
    ; Setup program runs without requiring user input.
    ;

    OemPreinstall = NO

    Filesystem = LeaveAlone

    [UserData]

    OrgName = "Your Organization Name "

    ; Turn AutoLogon ON and login once
    TimeZone = "004 "
    AdminPassword = *
    AutoLogon = Yes
    AutoLogonCount = 1

    [LicenseFilePrintData]
    ; For Server installs
    AutoMode = "PerServer "
    AutoUsers = "5 "

    [GuiRunOnce]
    ; List the programs that you want to lauch when the machine is logged into for the first time

    [Display]
    BitsPerPel = 8
    XResolution = 800
    YResolution = 600
    VRefresh = 70

    JoinWorkgroup = Workgroup

    Thanks in advance.

    The product key is not available for the user from the CD. It is found on the package that contained the CD originally. It may also be found on a sticker on the computer that came with the system preloaded.

    The number you found in the unattended.txt file is only a sample to show how the number sequence is formatted and is not a valid product ID.

    Any relief you get to solve this problem will have to come from MicroSoft after you explain your situation to them via a phone call to the number you will get when you try to activate the system.
