can someone tell me if mozilla has an email client, like netscape's 'messenger'?

also, similarly, does the latest version of netscape (netscape 7?) include messenger?

i use ie for browsing and netscape for email. netscape used to be my favorite browser, but i got fed up with its crashiness. i refuse to use ie's email client for the simple fact that every virus writer on the planet feasts upon it. <g>

if netscape ever releases a solid, non-crashy version, i'd probably switch back. i still keep communicator4.79 on my machine, but it does zero heavy lifting in my browsing universe.

thank you for any feed back on messenger....

    :)

    Hi mr. mark,

Indeed both Mozilla and Netscape 7 have Mail & Newsgroup features. It isn't called "Messenger ", however. That is the Communicator Mail program.

During a "Custom" install of either browser you have the choice of selecting the Mail & Newsgroup feature.

Currently I use Mozilla 1.0.1b Mail & Newsgroups, and find it to be a solid feature. I did try Mozilla 1.1 Final, but found that 1.0.1b runs better on my system. I have kept 4.79, however, and continue to use Messenger as my default Mail program. Am I chicken? Could be! ;)

    hi ramona

thank you for the fast and helpful reply.

regarding, "I have kept 4.79, however, and continue to use Messenger as my default Mail program. Am I chicken? Could be! "....

some might say you're wise. :)

i was hoping that one of these newer netscape browsers contained an updated version of messenger, so that i wouldn't have to migrate address book and get used to a new interface, etc. but it looks like i'll either have to stick with my existing messenger client, or get brave myself.

btw, glad to hear we can keep an older version of netscape around and still run a newer version. for some reason, i thought that would not work.

nice board you have going here, ramona.

    :)

    Hi mr. mark,

Netscape 7 and Mozilla 1.1 will automatically convert your Netscape 4.X Profile. Everything will be transferred. Sorry I didn't make that clear.

Actually the Mail & NG feature of Netscape 7 and Mozilla 1.1 are similar to Messenger, with the plus of being able to have multiple mail accounts.

As Netscape 7.0 Final will be based on Mozilla 1.1. For a preview of "What's New ", check the Mozilla 1.1 Release Notes.

Glad you are having a good experience with the Board, and thanks! Arie runs a nice ship.

If you have more questions, lemmeno.

i hope you get lots of pats on the back, cause you deserve them.

i will be referring directly to your input when i make the move to install mozilla and/or netscape.

    thank you

    Always happy to help!

    Thanks mr.mark.

Be sure to post back, as we'll be looking forward to the results.

Netscape 7.0 should be available very soon, possibly this week. Some sneaky users did a download yesterday, but it is not yet the final code, so I'm going to wait.

    Hang on to 4.79! ;)

Just to add about the Mozilla Mail app, I have been using it for months with not a problem.

I use it at home with both of my pop accounts and at work with my IMAP4 account. It has been very stable and I cannot remember any crashes and loss of data in Mozilla. Which is remarkable since I tend to tinker with it.

I started using the mail client everyday starting with 0.9.7, before that the browsers ldap address directory support did not work with our ldap server.
