I have a Toshiba Satellite M65-S809. For a while the cord has been really loose in the back, and finally it just quit getting power all together. I took it in and had the peice soldered back together and now it gets power when I plug it in, but it starts up for a second or two and then shuts off. The guys who soldered the peice back together to let it charge said it has a cracked motherboard and that's why it starts and shuts off right away. Does that sound right? The batter life was only about 5 minutes before I took it in. Could it just be a dead battery (but it still does this when plugged in)?

    Thanks!

Its a real common problem with needing to replace the mobo when the power connector breaks.

Why is that, are the two directly connected? So is it most likely that whatever broke the power connector also broke the mobo?

The power connector is directly attached to the mobo. When they break off, they take a piece of the mobo with em....Please note I speaking "generically" and that your mileage may vary.

If you can access that part of the mb, the broken section, you may be able to glue it using thermoplastic adhesive (hot melt glue gun) enough to prevent the connecter from losing the connection.
