For some reason my Microsoft Streets & Trips stopped functioning. I deleted the program, cleaned the registry, then attempted to reinstall it.

Just as Windows Installer is about to do its job, I get the following message:

"Error 1324. The path Microsoft Streets_Trips contains an invalid character."

So, where is this path, and what is the invalid character? Since I completely flushed my system of all (I hope) references to the program, I'm at a total loss as to what to do next. Any help, please? Running XP.

Mama Mia, thatsa lot to swallow! Problem is, how do I delete the invalid character, when I don't know what the invalid character is?

If it's the _ (underline) between Streets and Trips, let me tell you that there are at least 100,000 such underlines all over the registry. Just take a look.

I don't want to appear ungracious for the help offered above, but isn't there something simpler?

    Yes, there is.
Go to Start\Run, type in "REGEDIT" and press Enter. In the menu bar of the Registry Editor go to Edit, then select Find. Type in "Microsoft Streets_Trips" then press Enter. Where it appears in the right pane, delete the line. Then continue with the Find and see if it finds any more of "Microsoft Streets_Trips ".
If it isn't found, use "Microsoft Streets & Trips" in the Find instead.

It is not the _, it is more probably a / when it should be a \ . Deleting the entry, and then installing the software should put it back right.

Nothing is working. I've deleted every instance of Streets_Trips, Streets & Trips, and Streets and Trips from the registry. I am now abandoning all hope.
