For the majority of computer users its likely that you will encounter some type of hardware failure during the life-time of your computer.

Knock on wood. The only hard drive that failed me was an old 2.1 GB Western Digital that lasted 6 years. I have killed processors due to extreme overclocking attempts. Those were original (2) Pentiums, (1) AMD K6, (1) Slot A T-Bird and (2) Athlons. I have only lost one CD-Rom, one video card and a motherboard (DIMM socket). Not too bad of a record between 8 PCs in the last 14 years. I forgot to include a power supply that went up in flames after 6 years of use.

In addition to an IBM DeathStar (60GXP) I checked the box for "Other components" which in my case stands for a few fans that were getting noisy.

Included all the computers (PC's only) I've owned (business / personnel - approx. 20x). Over half had zero component failure. The balance (minus one) about 1 component failure / computer. The worse is my current personnel... but has at least 4x fold the running hours. MOBO failed due to local builder chose a model with a known issue. Running third PS and 2nd HDD.

1 hard drive and 1 power supply. Not bad for about 10 years of computing.

I think Western Digital's 100GB WD1000 Caviar drives must have been a bad design, as I had six of them (including two that had been replaced under warranty) turn themselves into doorstops over a four year period.

Keyboards take a terrible beating, and I've had a couple become unusable because one or more keys refused to work. I think it's more of a problem for those of us who don't touch-type, but who rely on the "biblical system" ... seek and ye shall find. :)
