I read in a magazine last year that there is a way to bypass the Welcome screen in XP (thereby speeding up the boot sequence a little) but the unfortunate reality of having an OCD wife is that my magazine has disappeared...

Can someone provide me the check list for that tweak?

    Thanks,
    Rick

Go to Start>Run. Type "control userpasswords2" (without the quotes), click OK.

In the window that opens, uncheck "Users must enter a username and password to use this computer," click OK.

In the dialog box that opens, make sure the name of the user account you want it to logon automatically is in the top field, the password for that account in is the bottom field (if there is no password for that account, leave the bottom field blank), click OK.

At the next bootup, it should logon straight to the user account you specified without stopping at the Welcome screen.
