I think I inquired about this before and that is why I installed the IE tab in Firefox but I was wondering if anyone KNEW why this is a fact.

What is there about IE that allows you to hear sound on a web site but when viewing the same site with Firefox you can't hear the music? Is there some plug-in that I'm missing? If so what is it.

Surely others have experienced this and know the answer?

    Pat,

Some web authors use IE specific coding which isn't cross browser compliant. Firefox, or any Mozilla application, and Opera, adhere strictly to the The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) Standard coding. MS does not adhere to these standards, hence sloppy coding which is not cross browser compliant.

    Ramona,

I started checking around and realized that I didn't have QuickTime installed. I figured I had nothing to lose so I installed it and that one particular web site worked with Quick Time installed. Hard to say what a different site would require.

    Thanks.

Most sites tell you if you need a certain plugin. But, again, it may be matter of coding, and, they must be taking for granted that you use IE.
And, then, there are sites which tell you of the need for a plugin, and then block certain browser from using it (I call it "sniffing ").
