Under the 'Add/Remove Programs' window, there is something called Worm Wars III 1.0 and Worm Wars III 1.0 colej_uk Design Toolbar. I cannot find these files anywhere else on the computer and I cant figure out how to remove them. My computer works fine until it gets hot then shuts down. This will happen very quickly if I am doing multiple things. The dang thing just shuts down on me!!
    Please help!
    Michael

I have windows XP if that helps

    Hi crispy585
    Welcome to Windowsbbs. :)

Worm Wars III seems to be a game of some sort.
When you click on it in add/remove there should be a remove button to click on to remove it from your computer...is there not one?

This could be just a good cleaning fix or it could be a hardware problem.

Shut down your computer, make sure any and all power wires running to your tower are disconnected from it.
Get a can of compressed air and remove the side panel of the tower and blow it out, make sure not to blow on the fan so they spin, hold them with a tooth pick. Do not use a vacuum cleaner to clean it. clean all vent holes so it is getting a good air supply.

    See if that helps.

There is a remove button next to the icon. And when I click it an uninstall wizard window pops up with the only options being Next or Cancel, so I hit Next and that same window keeps reappearing every time. Like its caught in a loop. As little as I know, my computer is clean from dust and I think the shutting down is due to a virus or something. Maybe worm wars III is just a game but the fact that I cannot get it off my computer is killing me.

One more problem that I remembered that might be related: when I hit Ctrl+Alt+Del, nothing happens. No window pops up or anything. So I cannot get into the task manager to see whats going on.
    Thank you again

    Hi crispy585

Can I ask why you don't have administrator privileges?

Is this a work computer or is it a personal computer?

Do you think it is the infection causing it?

Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri) to your Desktop.

You should print out these instructions, or copy them to a NotePad file for reading while in Safe Mode, because you will not be able to connect to the Internet to read from this site.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
    • Restart your computer
    • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
    • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
    • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter ".
    • Choose your usual account.
Once in Safe Mode, double-click on SmitfraudFix.exe
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter" to delete infected files.

You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ? "; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.

The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter ".

The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process; if it doesn't, please restart it into Normal Windows.
A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process; please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.
The report can also be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

Warning : running option #2 on a non infected computer will remove your Desktop background.

Please post the smitfraud log a new HJT log and let me know about the administrator privileges

    Thanks
    Geri

Well I don't think the administrator thing is caused by the virus. This is my home computer that a friend built for me. He took files and documents like pictures and school work and put them in a folder on this one. When I booted in Safe Mode, I had the option of choosing to log in as an administrator or my normal user. When I boot normally i have no option. And control alt delete worked in safe mode. Now I am hoping there is some advanced setting i dont know about to fix everything!!
    Anyways here is the log:

    Hi crispy585

    OK Click Start
    Click Control Panel
    Open the Users Accounts
    Click on your Account
Click on Change my account type
Make sure Computer Administrator is checked.
    Click Change account type.
    Follow any prompts
Reboot if not asked to do so.
Let me know which account type was checked before doing this.

You have 2 anti-virus programs installed, 1 must be uninstalled. Pick the one you want to remove and remove it from Add/Remove Programs.
    AVG7
    McAfee

After the above Please do this next.

Download ComboFix from [color= "Red"]Here[/color] to your Desktop.
It's best to disable realtime protection applications as they sometimes interfere with the tool. Check this link for any applicable programs you may have.
    • Close all open programs and windows
    • Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
    • Vista users right click Combofix.exe and select Run As Administrator.
    • When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log and a HiJackthis log in your next reply
Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while its running. That may cause it to stall

Please post the Combofix log and answer my questions.

    Thanks
    Geri

    Hi crispy585

Please go to Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove the following (if present):

    Colej_uk Design Toolbar
    MacroVirus

Please note any other programs that you dont recognize in that list and post them in your next response

    Highlight and copy the contents of the code box below and paste it into a blank notepad, then save it to your desktop as;

    Filename: CFScript.txt
Save As Type: All Files (*.*)

Close all other windows and programs. Now drag the CFScript.txt onto ComboFix.exe and drop it, using the left mouse button.
Click here to see how to use CFScript.txt
Combofix should run and may reboot the computer when it's done. A log will open when it's complete. Post the contents of that log and another fresh HijackThis log.

Please do not click on the ComboFix window while it is running a scan. This can cause it to stall.

    Code:
    File::

    Hi

OK lets try and see if HJT will delete them.

Delete an Entry from the Uninstall List

    • Open HiJackThis
    • Click on the "Config..." button on the bottom right
    • Click on the tab "Misc Tools "
    • Click on the Box that says "Uninstall Manager "
    • Click on the entry you wish to delete
    • Click on Delete this entry
    • Click "Yes "

Let me know if that works.

    Geri
