Running WinXP SP2...I have the Linksys WRT54GS Router. Sometimes the speed drops from 54Mbps to 1Mbps but the Signal Strength will say EXCELLENT. How can the strength still be excellent with this kind of speed drop?

It could be interference. That is there is another strong signal and the connection is having to slow down to make sure the traffic passes OK.

Try changing the wireless channel used by your router/access-point.
