I have a business laptop that I have not used for sometime. I need to ensure files are removed before turning into the corporate help desk. I know its against rules to show how to reset windows password, but I have the know how on how to do that. My situation is the laptop uses PC Guardian encryption software - which I do have the password to and can log in past that - to the windows logon screen. That is the password I don't remember. The tools I have will you boot from and it will come up - as normal - but the C: drive shows as unformated due to the pc guardian encyrption. So rather than do a full drive format -- is there a way to login to the system through the encryption and then launch the password reset tool without having to reformat the drive?

    Thanks -- YankeeDon65

Is the password and/or windows user id one you created for windows or is it a standard? On our PCs, we have the Administrator account/password but it is not normally used except for troubleshooting. When a customer logs in to the PC, they either sync the windows account with their novell password or a generic username is used that has a password that automatically logs in.

I would check with your help desk and see if there is another account with administrative rights on that PC. Unless of course you already know there is not. Of course, your help desk may have other options that will work.

Some types of this software will give you the option of being able to restart your PC with it being disabled or the login deactivated for a set number of times.

Can PC guardian be turned off then back on once you retrieve the data you need and after changing the password?
The other option is to check out PC Guardians help/support area or any manuals that came with the software on the laptop.
I am not familiar with PC guardian so I can't be much help here though I am familiar with similar software.

BMs...Feel free to edit this post if it violates any password policies on this board ... or let me know and I'll just remove it.

    Good luck
