In spite of my settings, for reasons unknown, my monitor is no longer turned off when the idle time expires (XP-Pro). Does anyone have any ideas how to fix this? TIA.

I am not quite sure what you mean by "idle time expires ". Is it when the power saving settings should commence?

Watch the activity LED on the mouse. It may be registering activity (maybe reflections off the surface or a vibration) and not allowing the system to go into the low-power settings.

If it is a desktop computer, I suggest not using Standby settings. Set the power settings individually for monitor, hard drives, etc and do not set them to coincide with each other or screensaver settings.

If you are using a non-standard screen saver, try a standard Windows one.

Thanks for the reply. Sorry I wasn't clear, yes I am referring to the power saver settings. The mouse is off and the screen saver comes up when it is supposed to. It just won't power down the monitor when its time expires. This was working fine until a couple of weeks ago and then just quit powering off. I have no clue what event occurred at that time. I tried reinstalling the monitor driver but that didn't help. It has me stumped.
