I am running Avast Anti-virus 4.7 Home Edition. Every time I run a scan, I get a message that numerous files have not been scanned because they are password protected. I do not have any files that are password protected. How can I scan these files. I have three computers, one running Vista Home Edition and the other two running XP Pro and they all give the same message. I would like to scan the whole system. Thanks for any help.

    Hi, Wayne. :)

Does Avast! identify the path and file name for each of the files it cannot scan because they are "password protected "? If so, then please identify the paths and file names for us (at least some of the paths\files if there are too many to list).

While Avast! seems to be a reputable anti-virus application, have you tried any other reputable anti-virus scanners or online virus scanners to see if they also identify the same files?

You can find links to anti-virus scanners (both downloadable and online) here and here.

Thanks for the quick reply. I couldn't get the Avast site to work in order to find the answer. Yes, the paths are listed, but I think PeteC has answered the question. If they are locked, I guess they must be protected from infection. I have tried some other Anti-Virus programs with the same results.

Thanks to both Mailman and PeteC.

    This is a great board!
