Hi, AdmSirRed. Welcome to Windows BBS! :)

If you can identify the specific computer (brand and model number) your sister uses, that may help us locate the appropriate drivers for it.

If the computer is a built computer (instead of HP, Compaq, Dell, etc.) and the audio is part of the motherboard (instead of an audio card), then we will need to know the make and model number of the motherboard (printed on the motherboard) to locate specific drivers for the motherboard.

Is your sister's computer still under warranty? If yes, then opening the case to look at the specifications (motherboard manufacturer, model number, and possibly revision number) on the motherboard may void the warranty.

When you start your sister's computer, are any logos shown that indicate it might be an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) computer (such as Dell, HP, Acer, etc.)?

Where did your sister get her computer from?

Some computers display details about the computer on one of the first black screens that appear during startup. The information sometimes identifies the motherboard brand, model, revision number and BIOS date/version/revision in the upper left corner of the black screen. If you tap the Pause/Break key while a black information screen is displayed, that often will halt the start-up so you can have time to write down the specific details. Then tap the Enter key to continue the startup.

After Windows is loaded, click Start, right-click "My Computer ", and then select "Properties ". That should open the "System Properties" window.

The information displayed under the "General" tab of the "System Properties" window may shed some light about the computer manufacturer, processor type and speed, etc.

The black screen dose not show up on her computer, all it shows is a blue screen with the pentium 4 logo on it,

with intel desktop and such on the botem before going into boot up.

Go to Start -> Run and enter msinfo32. Post back what is listed for System Summary(list on left-hand side) -> System Manufacturer and System Model(listed on the right-hand side).

Here are the FAQs at the Soundmax website:
    http://forms.analog.com/Form_Pages/soundMAX/soundMAXSupportFAQ.html#top
You will still need to get the drivers from the motherboard manufacturer. Use the uninstall method (Add or Remove Programs) before you try installing the new drivers. Uninstall any other drivers you may have installed as well.

This should do the trick if she's got XP Home, Pro or MCE. Remember to remove the old audio drivers first.

Look in Control Panel -> System -> Hardware tab -> Device Manager for any errors. The audio controller will most likely have an error. Right-click on it and try using the Update Driver... selection. Select "No, not this time" to connect to Windows update.

If that does not work, you could try booting into Safe Mode, going to Device Manager and uninstall the controller.

There are one or two other methods if those do not work.

    Good luck with it.

Just some things you can check:

Control Panel -> Internet Options -> Advanced tab -> Multimedia -> Play sounds in web pages.

If you are trying to "stream" audio, you may need a specific player, or that player may need to be "reset" to run the newly installed drivers. Check if the website requires a player other than Windows Media Player.

In Windows Media Player, go to Tools -> Options, check the Devices tab that the new drivers are selected for audio playback. Highlight the audio device and click Properties. Use the drop-down list to view the devices. Under the File Types tab, are all the boxes checked (otherwise another player is the default player)?

Start -> Run, enter dxdiag. On the first tab, check the DirectX Version, get version 9.0c from the Windows Update website if it is an earlier version.
The Sound tab will have information about the audio. On the More Help tab, click the Sound Troubleshooter button, that will lead you to checking the various volume control areas.

    Matt
PS Just a cautionary note. I notice you say "deleted ". If you are working on drivers or programs, uninstall them, do not attempt to delete any related files.
