can't install wireless mouse

    Bought a used Eagle Touch (from China) wireless keyboard and mouse from someone. Got the keyboard installed and love it. But....I'm scared to uninstall my mouse software to install their driver. Anyhow it just doesn't plug in. And doesn't autoinstall. Wouldn't uninstalling the mouse pretty much disable my computer? Anyone done this before?

    Sharon - Welcome to the Board :)

    Should be no need to uninstall your existing mouse - just install the software for the new mouse.

    Does the mouse run off the same transmitter as the keyboard? The MS system does and it may just be a case of 'connecting' the mouse to the transmitter. Is this basically your setup ......

    If so there should be a 'connect' button on both the transmitter and the mouse. In the manual I guess - if you have it.

    If you are concerned create a System Restore point first.

    I currently have a MS Wireless mouse and MS USB optical mouse both installed - both work fine and also wired and wireless keyboards.

    That looks like what I've got.

    I tried again after your post and got the mouse plugged in -to the computer. Also established a restore point. But if I mess up the mouse, how would I use it?

    It's a receiver with a divided cord for keyboard and mouse. I fear you are describing a plug and play system (I'm not sure what that is) and suspect mine is not.

    It's plugged into a round plug with about 6 pins or so. I read somewhere in my searches that the keyboard driver will not uninstall if this would make it unusable. Is this true of the Windows? mouse driver? It's an e machine with Windows XP.

    Sooo. Should I install the software without uninstalling the mouse driver. The book says "All other mouse drivers must be uninstalled."

    I am not quite with you here - a wireless mouse has no wires coming from it (screenshot). Are you sure that is what you have?

    What you describe ....
    sounds like a standard PS/2 wired mouse.

    Rereading your post - it's late here and my comprehension is not as clear as it was earlier today :) .....
    So the receiver is plugged into the mouse port and into the keyboard port on the rear of the computer? In other words the transmitter does not plug into a USB port.

    If I have it right you should have nothing to worry about. The driver for the standard wired PS/2 mouse is built into Windows and cannot be removed, but if you have a 'fancy' mouse there may be other software installed to give increased functionality including the possibility of a special driver. However I rather doubt it - I have an HP Business computer for Vista and the mouse could not be plainer.

    Wireless keyboard and optical mouse working

    I got the optical mouse working. I simply plugged it in, finally got that, and pushed the ID setting buttons and used the old mouse software. I tried to install the fancy software without uninstalling the original driver but couldn't. It wouldn't take the serial number then said it detected an uninstall shield or something. i.e. I hadn't uninstalled the original driver. There is I think a way to do that. Under mouse in the control panel. I just lost my nerve.

    Meanwhile, my back hurts less leaning back in a chair with a pillow on my lap than when I was sitting straight up for hours at my old desk. Thanks.
