My wife's WinXP SP2 laptop has a folder (2.5 GB in size) in the Recycle Bin. When I try to empty it, it says "...Cannot Remove...Directory Is Not Empty. "
Recycle Bin is 3.99 GB in size. This has never happened before so I'm baffled.

Any ideas on how to empty it?

PS: I've tried booting into Safe Mode but get the same message when trying to empty it in Safe Mode!

2.5 GB ? WOW ! Try it one slice at a time.....

    Hi, LDunham !

    Holy **** !!!

2.5 GB in your recycle bin ??? WOW !!!

You might want to consider trying this little concept...

If the 2.5 GB folder has just one thing in it, it's going to take quite some time for your recycle bin to work its way through it. You won't be able to tell that it's actually getting rid of the stuff until it's all gone.

On the other hand, if that folder is full of a whole bunch of little files, then why now take them all out of the folder THEN send them to the recycle bin? That way, although it will take just as long to delete them, you will able to see some progress while the job is being done.

Try to look at it as if you were trying to eat a whole loaf of bread (unsliced) all at the same time. It would be kind of difficult, wouldn't it? On the other hand, if you were to eat that loaf of bread ONE SLICE AT A TIME, it would be a whole lot easier now, wouldn't it? Probably faster too ! ;)

Try deleting all of the files individually instead of all at once as a group.

Oh, yes, and one other thing: Be patient with the process... :D

    Good Luck !

Restart in Safe Mode, and try to empty Recycle Bin from there.
If that doesn't help, open Recycle Bin, and restore folder to its original location.
    Close Recycle Bin.
Right-click the Recycle Bin, and then click Properties.
In the Recycle Bin Properties dialog box, click to select the Do not move files to the Recycle Bin. Remove files immediately when deleted check box (don't forget to switch it back, after you're done).
    Click OK.
Go to folder's original location, delete files from within folder, first, and then, folder itself.

It is possible that the Recycle Bin is corrupted or contains a corrupted file.

    Go here ....

http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_qr.htm and scroll down to Recycle Bin.

Try Damaged Files in Recycled Folder

If no joy go to Replace/Repair the Recycle Bin (Line 64)
