You were asked by PM to start a new thread - not hijack another which relates to SP3. I have split your post to a new thread.

We need a lot more detail, please - what is the problem?

Are there any error messages given? - post the text.

What is your audio device - onboard chip or plug in audio card?

Which audio player are you using?

This isn't the first time this has happened and usually I just reboot the computer and the sound is back. This time I went to device manager and found:
    Microsoft Kernel Wave Audio Mixer
Cannot load the device driver. May be corrupted or missing. Code 39.
    driver is kmixer.sys

I can reboot and this will clear itself up, but has anyone else had this problem and what did they do to fix it??

    Im using Gom Player

please how do i get more information on the problem. i Just encountered another problem! my Microsoft WINMM WDM Audio compatibility driver is not installed.

    please waiting for your replies

Is your installation of XP fully pached with all the available updates and Service Packs - SP2 ?

Try reinstalling KB920872 - this updates Kmixer.sys and a couple of other files - the actual download is here ....

    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...A5-6A28-4888-93A7-6A6C6A87BE7F&displaylang=en

I am not familiar with Gom Player - are you running the latest version? ....

    http://www.gomplayer.com/forum/viewtopic.html?t=1013

Do you get the same problem in Windows Media Player?

There is a download for Microsoft WINMM WDM Audio Compatibility Driver - 5.1.2535.0 here ....

    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/win/65917

but I would read through this thread first and maybe take the alternative route ....
