I sort of inherited this HP Deskjet printer it is 612C
I got it working as far as printing but the printing is very streaky. I have manually cleaned it several times but have no luck getting rid of the streaking.
I have inquired to HP and haven`t heard back from them what could cause the streaking other than the cartridge being bad or printer being dirty. If I thought a new cartridge would solve the problem would buy one does anyone know of any other reason that the streaking would persist other than the cartridge or a dirty printer.
Would really appreciate someones input. Thanks

You can download software from HP including all your drivers although it sounds as if you have those. In that software are utilities (toolbox) to align cartridges and clean cartridges. Try that - If that doesn't work, then its almost definately low ink. Thats not a bad little printer even though its slow - and, it sure runs quiet.

    Yes...What rockster2u said...

Also- as a longtime HP printer user- Remove the cartridges and look on the bottom where the ink comes out and also where the cartridge contacts the paper. Does it look like it's growing hair? Q-tips and denatured alcohol will clean this mess up pretty good and then you can replace your cart and do a clean cycle and allignment, If this doesn't work then new cartridge is the thing. Prepare for sticker shock. The black cart is about $31.00 and the color is a little more.

    Good Luck!!

I got a new cartridge and this did not work it is still smeary and it cost quite a bit. It has been cleaned several times and I still have the same problem. I have some different paper here and it sort of printed better on it I think it was a better paper.
The cartridge which I got says it is high density ink which is the model number I was given by HP tech . But on looking through the computers I found their is another model number which uses just regular ink. Which works with this computer. I can`t seem to find this cartridge in the stores but if it would work could probably order it. Also maybe if I knew what kind of paper to buy might be cheaper than buying a new cartridge right away. That is to use the high density ink. I have spent quite a bit on the cartridge and am hoping to get some use out of the printer before I discard it.
I also find the printer prints on a slant near the end of a page have tried re aligning it but still does the same. Maybe this could have something to do with it??
If anyone knows anything at all about this would appreciate the help. Thanks
