    Hi all,
Is there any way I can improve my two Vista graphics scores by getting a tool that overclocks it, a better driver, a different(?) driver, for my ATI FireGL V5200 driver??

My hard drive went from 5.4 to 5.5 when I applied a new driver, and it has stayed at 5.5!

    Thanks...:)

Keeping your drivers updated should be the first thing you do, as it is free and easy to do, and overclocking can be extremely risky, and you should so some research on whether your video card is overclockable and how much you can overclock it without frying it.

Ahh... so you are "one of those" :D

Believe me, I could have been tempted... until I started thinking about it.

You see, my graphics card (NVIDIA GeForce 6800 GT) only scores 3.5 on the Gaming Graphics, while the rest of my system scores:

    Processor: 4.9
    Memory: 5.1
    Graphics: 5.9
    Primary hard disk: 5.4

So since WEI uses the lowest score, my PC scores 3.5.

But what would I gain by having my Gaming Graphics score at (for example) 5.4? I NEVER play games on this PC, so why waste money on it?

Also, you know you can just edit a certain file on your PC to adjust the score however you want it right?

I think the WEI score is just a gimmick to get people to upgrade their hardware, without actually stopping to consider if they need it. The age old mine is bigger/longer then yours ;)

Hehe, Arie, yes, I am one of those. It is no longer important, as I found out how to manually take the scores up to 9.9, if I wanted to haha...But I don't cheat, and that wouldn't be fun. But in a way, it has relieved my obsession with the WEI scores.

The only component that you can't upgrade on Thinkpads as of right now, is the embedded graphics chip. Everything else I can to a certain extent. For example, I can't go higher than the T7600 I upgraded my system to. I think I'm over it. The ATI V5200 w/ 256MB of dedicated VRAM, which also supports Hypermemory, is perfectly fine. I recently won two games, which run under Steam, so I installed the engine and the games, as it was the only software I had had only my Vista x86 that I hadn't tried for compatibility on x64 yet. Pleasantly surprised, yet again, not only does it work, the games enter a "64-bit mode" lol...Unbelievable! I'm not even going to reinstall the other games I'd had installed, as I can use those 25GB's worth for something more useful to me. ;) I can run Bluray 1080p's without so much as a skip, so that should mean I have a kick-a$$ video card, no? :)

So my Vista scores are 5.2 for the CPU, 5.5 for the HDD, 4.8 for the RAM, 4.2 (my base score) for the Windows Aero, and 4.6 for gaming graphics. I'm much more excited of what's coming my way...Atheros a/b/g/n integrated wireless card! Woohoo! Does anyone have a recommendation for an N router? The Linksys 600N looks good, but supposedly, I'll see an increase in performance as far as range, and therefore speed as well with running it at "g-only ", as Atheros is supposedly a much better card for WiFi (compared to the Intel 3945ABG I have now).

So if I do the transplant, the motherboard on the 2623 Thinkpad T60p series models will bump my base score to 4.3 lol...I know that, as my current 2nd T60p is a 2623, and it's consistently 4.3 vs. my 2007 series model generates a 4.2, every time lol...

One quick question: NOT for the 4.3 score, lol, but for the N card, and the fact that I wouldn't have to run the wires myself this way, do you think I should just swap my 2007 mobo for the 2623? I'd just have to connect the antennas to the screen...Ugh...

The 2623 series is also a later model than the 2007 series, so is it possible, even though it uses the SAME chipset and gfx card, that some minor issue might have been addressed to bump it allllllll the way up by one tenth of a point? LOL...

Inquiring minds want to know. ;)

    Take care!

I hope I'm not out of line since it's not my post, but I have a quick question while you're on the subject. What's the difference between "Graphics" and "Gaming graphics" in the rating index? I assume they're both determined by the graphics card. Thanks.

I dunno'... I'm sure you can find it explained somewhere. But just a guess:

Grahics: As listed, only seems to take Windows Aero req. in account.

Gaming Graphics: Will measure the (3D) graphics performance, so would be a much more demanding test than the Aero graphics performance test.

Yes, both test your graphics card/chip. As the subscores state, one is for the Vista Aero interface, and the more intensive one, is the Gaming graphics one. :)

Thanks. The rating scores are different for the two on my PC...I was just curious.
