I'm running Windows ME, ample memory, 1/2 a good-sized HDD available, frequent ScanDisk and application of Norton's WinDoctor, and the machine usually runs well. Within the past few days however, the Windows Explorer "File and folder" search utility has quit. It comes up on call, but no activity when search criteria are entered. I've seen references to a TweakUI application to ensure that this utility hasn't been set to block the proper operation of the Search function, but I haven't been using Tweak for years. This problem sprang up from nowhere. I did search back fairly far for references to this problem, and if I missed a post, I apologise for taking up space. Any assistance in this area would be greatly appreciated - I'm lost without Search - literally.

I cannot help you with anything related to Me - I had it installed for a few days back in the dark ages and quickly reverted back to 98 :)

However I suggest you download Agent Ransack which is compatible with Me. It is a vastly superior search engine to any of the Windows varieties - I use the pro(paid) version FileLocatorPro today with XP but the free version is excellent too.

Without using Tweakui, the following registry fix works:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

Delete the No files search in the right hand pane
