The backup folder is suppose to contain the backup of the past five day's bookmarks.html file. I have bokmarks files of 2-22 till 2-26. In addition, there is a bookmarks.html, and a bookmarks.bak file. All of them have the same size.
Is the problem confined to the backup folder, or are the other two files empty?
Presumably if you had 0Kb bookmarks.html file, and this problem has been going on for, at least five days, you would have nothing to backup. I, also, have a copy of entire profile on an external drive, and a copy of the bookmarks.html file outside the profile.
So, what's going on with you?

Ramona has a good link . Go over it, and, see if it applies to you. I can't see how all the five bookmarks.backup files have disappeared, although I can see how you would not have no content in the present files. In spite of it, I don't trust the syste, so I have my own backups of the file outside the profile folder.
By the way, you give this path:
From the name of the profile, it is an incorrect path for Mozilla Firefox.
    It should be:

Unless your user name is administrator, that path is incorrect, as there is no administrator folder within the Profile folder.

Rather than Administrator, you should select your User Name. The path for locating the bookmarks.html file is:

    C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xxxxxxxx.username

    Ramona,
don't you think that profilename should be xxxxxxxx.default, rather than xxxxxxxx.username? But, honestly, I gave each of my Firefox profiles (three of them) a name of my choice, and, I don't think that there is xxxxxxxx.default profile. I know that the default profile was mandatory in the Suites, but how about the standalones? Both Firefox and Thunderbird do not have a default profile.

I'm not quite clear on what you're asking. The xxxxxxxx.username would be xxxxxxxx.default user, if the user had accepted the "default user ", user name in Firefox, or in Thunderbird.

See this Screen Shot This is the Profile Manager in Firefox 2.0.0.12. As you can see, "default user" remains the default user name, unless changed by the user.

    Am I understanding you correctly?

My point was that, although Netscape7 and Mozilla had a mandatory "default" folder, containing a .slt folder, where all the profile info was located, I don't have an equivalent "default" folder, or, better xxxxxxx.default. I prefer to give my own names to the profiles, rather than being tied to what they give me.
But, since I have not created a new profile in years, I did not have an answer as to what should be found. So "Default User" would be the name of a profile in the profile manager? I have only three profiles which I created over the years. Firefox1.0x, Firefox1.08, and Firefox1.5. No Default User. Same for Thunderbird.
But, the close relatives Flock and Navigator9 have the xxxxxx.default format, only.
    In other words????
