VPN was configured on a windows Xp operating system LAPTOP (IBM). The OS was upgraded to Windows Vista Enterprise. VPN was again reconfigured on the Laptop with Vista OS, The VPN didn't not work. The person who configured the VPN solution was to format the laptop and install Vista and reconfigured VPN. I don't agree with that solution. What could be the problem.. Thankss

    Hi batotoy

Well I think it is a little much also, means he don't know what else to do.

Many pros are still having problems networking with Vista based on

    1. The many flavors of Vista. Home thru Ultimate etc.
    2. Microsoft bugs in Vista
    3. Mixing IP6 and IP4.

    So go here and read
    http://www.smallbusinesscomputing.com/biztools/article.php/3667576

then look at Ip6 and IP4, Sharing, Public vs Private etc.

If in the end it comes to reformating if you are going to format any way then before doing so , download and install the Vista SP1 release canidate.

It has improved my Vista and others have reported improvements and very few new issues.

After this update recheck all the above. (Ip6 and IP4, Sharing, Public vs Private etc)

    Mike

    Vpn

Thanks a lot. I've added the links in favorite links.
Well surely they ran out of solutions reconfiguring VPN with VISTA thats why they wanted a fresh installation. I just hope they will be successful with VPN configuration from that moment. They will get into my nerve if they ask me to downgrade VISTA to XP Pro.. if they failed. :D

If the VPN software is based on an ActiveX control, you'll have to start IE with Administrative permissions. You can do that by right-clicking IE's icon and selecting Run as administrator from the menu.

Remember that Windows XP supports 56bit encryption when connecting to a VPN.

Windows Vista by default supports 128bit encryption. If the device accepting the VPN connection is not configured to allow this then the connection will fail.

The other thing to check would be the authentication being used.
Vista does not support MS-CHAP only MS-CHAP2 or higher. The device accepting the VPN also needs to support this.
