I am dumber than dumb and I have downloaded a chess game from the internet. i would like to uninstall it rather than just trashing it. Could someone please give me simple step by step instructions as to how to accomplish this? I would be eternally in your debt.

    Thank you in advance.

Hi Allan. Please don't provide your e-mail address on this forum because there is a possibility of your address getting hijacked with spam and we only respond to problems on the board only. :)

Now about the chess program go to start < Control Panel < Add/remove programs and check if its listed their. If its listed then highlight it and click Remove. Follow the prompts to remove the program. If the uninstaller completes successfully then restart the computer. ;)

Coming To The Rescue Of Dumber Than Dumb

Thank you so much for your help. I followed your instructions but the game was not on the list. So I entered it into the trash. It went a little crazy and several consecutive windows appeared telling me it was being uninstalled. Please thank Evan Omo for his kindness. In my zeal to dowload a game I paid no attention the the possible consequences, like a skydiver who takes no lessons before the plunge. LOL.

    Sincerely Allan

In the future, you might want to see if you can find entries in the start menu (Start>Programs)--sometimes there is a link to an uninstaller. If there's not an entry there, sometimes I simply go into C>Program Files and then look for the folder it is in, to see if there is one there.

At any rate, if you noticed anything out of the ordinary (making you want to uninstall it), I'd do a good scan or two with an antispyware program. If you have XP or Vista, you can download one from Microsoft:

    http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx

I'm just reading between the lines here in making this suggestion. Again, if there were spyware/adware problems, in many cases they don't go away just by removing the original program.
