For some reason, the filter fix seems to be stuck on "clean selected ". It's staying greyed out and won't change regardless of uninstalling it, downloading and installing it again. I will remove all of my cd burning programs, reboot and try again.

Its because they have already been cleaned. After you install something else it will then run again if needed.

It is normal once you clean the filters that you would need to reinstall your software. That will put the correct filter back.

I got rid of every cd burning program and downloaded deepburner(free). I went back to the filter fix program and it is still stuck. I pressed on scan computer and now it seems stuck. I'm getting pretty worn down on trying to make this player work, I hope the end is in sight.

I don't think it will run if the filters are already gone. Not all CD Burning software needs external Filters most of the ones below do not.

    Did Deepburner not work?

They used to have a free ver 6. I couldn't find it either.

    Here are some free ones

Maybe I'm confusing you, I don't care too much right now if the CD burning program works, I wanted to install windows office 2000 on my machine and my player won't read it. It will however read a photo project cd and what also is funny is that it won't recognize a cd that I recorded some stuff on using it. Oh, BTW, I bought a cleaning disc and it didn't fix the problem.

OK I see, but these are interrelated!

Lets define what the drive can read.

Is the Office 2000 disk a CD or DVD and is it a factory disk or burnt disk.

Try to see if the player will recognise only factory disks and not any burnt disks.

Try a Factory Music CD and a burnt Music cd if you have one.

I have to retract the statement made about it only playing factory discs, I got it to play some non factory recorded discs as well. Some that I had recorded useing the same recorder that's giving me trouble.

    HI Bubba

Sorry so long getting back but been covered up with work and life!

OK are the ones that it reads made by you as copy of another disk as opposed to where you used drag and drop etc.

Point is the cd writing sofware uses a different process to make a copy of a CD than when you just add files etc.

Meaning the Copied CD would look more like a factory CD.

But it is looking more like the Drive can not align the laser to CDR written disks. The fact that it does read all factory disks and some burnt disks means it is likely on its way out.

At this point the only way to prove that is..

    1. remove cd from your computer and put in another computer that all software is working and lookfor same issues. If same replace the drive.

    2. put another known good drive (perhaps borrowed from someone) drive in your computer and test it to work if so this proves your CD bad.

I hate to say it but I think you're right and the player/recorder is on it's way out. I have another one in another computer that I may swap out.

Yes this will confirm it right off.

Swap drives, problem moves with drive to other computer then it is confirmed the drive is going south.

Double confirmating is the other drive back in this computer and works clears any problems with drivers or filters on this one.

Its really only a cople of screws and unplug 2 cables on each to swap. Eyeball the jumpers on the back of each drive in case they are different.

    Let me know, good luck.

Picked up another drive and swapped it out today. I was able to swap my old drive for another one where I work. Everything is cool now and working fine. Thanks to all that responded.
