I have Ad-Aware 2007, Spy Bot, Spyware Blaster etc. and recently, I installed ThreatFire, which is supposedly running all the time. Each day I run Ad-Aware and there's always 6 or more of the same spyware identified, which I delete. I repeat the same procedure again the next day.
Is there any way that I can prevent the spyware/malware from appearing on my computer or is this a fact of life when one uses the internet? Thanks.

Aren't they just "tracking cookies ", or it's something more serious?

It looks like that's all they are...I'm assuming that my anti-spyware is working. I guess I shouldn't be worried and just accept the inevitable and carry on as usual? Thanks.

While having the latest greatest software on board is a good idea, the best piece of 'software' you have is your head.

Be smart, never open any emails which look even the slightest bit 'off', no matter how tempting they look.

Never click an IM link from someone even if you know the contact until you verify what it is.

Never download anything you find on the Net without checking it out, either via Google or your fav online file scanner.

Never vere too far off the beaten path and this does not pertain so much to adult related sites as it does more to keygen\warez types.

To add to what you have I'd also install one of the following hosts files:

Both are updated at least once a month, hpHosts sometimes twice a month.

Then, nothing to worry about. Just clean them out, and forget it.

Ya, I forgot to add that cookies don't pose any real threat at all. Deleting them is cake.

Don't delete them but put them into the vault where they cannot do any harm anymore. As you already found, if you delete them the next time you are on the Internet your computer will be infected again.

I'm sorry, but I see no connection between the above two actions, besides, you'd have to try really hard to convince me, that a tracking cookie is an infection.

They can be. I had a cookie planted that was a Trojan Horse trying to find out my personal info. such as account #'s, passwords etc. In my case the Trojan Horse is in the vault. Your decision what you want to do.

    Good luck,

Trojan horse, and a tracking cookie are two totally different animals.

You are right. However, a Trojan Horse is not a virus but spyware. I caught the Trojan Horse with SpySweeper and put it into the vault. Look it up in Wikipedia.

Firstly, I never said, trojan is a virus, secondly, I don't have to use Wikipedia to know what trojan is, because I know what trojan is.
Thirdly, this discussion is going nowhere, so I'll refrain from pursuing this subject.

I was just trying to help. If you are that smart that you know all of that, how come you are not able to solve your own problem?

    Have a nice night.
