How can I get Vista to recognize my 2.0 USB ports. All it sees is 1.0. I have tried everything that Microsoft and HP suggested. Unplugged ever USB device, deleted all USB drivers and rebooted letting the computer reinstall all drivers. Nothing seems to work. what am I missing?
When ever I plug into a USB port I get a message stating my device would work faster if plugged into a 2.0 USB Port.
This is a new computer by HP and only has a 2.0 USB card.

    Hi,

I suppose you have come across this:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...u&lc=en&dlc=en&product=3663797&dlc=en&lang=en

You did the driver update? You got the "cumulative rollup update "?

    Just note this:
If you have installed USB devices with their software, you may need to completely uninstall that software before the USB controller drivers can be reinstalled correctly. If you have installed printer software, audio software (Itunes, etc), flash/micro drive software, camera software, etc etc, you will probably need to uninstall it and try updating the USB drivers again.

    Vista USB

I have tried everything listed above. I have one device that requires software and that is my printer. I have removed it, reinstalled it several times. No luck. My other USB devices are an external hard drive and a USB Hub that installs itself when plugged in and I use a flash drive once and a while. I have removed everything related to the USB port, booted clean, let the computer find the ports and then reinstalled everything. Still no 2.0. This computer did work right when new but something has changed something to cause this problem. I will say one more thing about the ports and that is I have two ports located on the front of the computer that just plain quiet. They worked in the begaining but do not work at all. I think I am going to have to send this computer back to HP and let them find the problem.

Have you uninstalled the USB controllers in Device Manager?

    If not, this may work:
    1. Unplug all USB devices except hubs, the mouse and keyboard (if you have them) then boot Windows in Safe Mode (tap F8 at switch on).
    2. Right-click My Computer > Properties > Hardware Tab > Device Manager and look for everything in the USB Devices or Universal Serial Bus Controllers category then right-click and Uninstall them starting from the bottom (last one).
    3. Restart the system and Windows will then re-install the USB controllers. Plug in your USB devices one at a time and they should be recognised properly. Note that some drivers may be needed if Windows can't find them in its own driver repository.
