occupiedtoe - Welcome to the Board :)

First off please do not hijack another posters thread - you may have the same basic problem, but the cause may be completely different.

I have seen your problem before .....

nVidia Network Access Manager is the likely cause - uninstall it through Add/Remove Programs
Some detail in this thread ....

nvidia and windows live messenger crash ?

    hello again
so my concern before uninstaling nvidia is weather or not ill be prone to hacking or whatever comes with not having a firewall
    what exactly is nvidia's purpose??
note that i have windows xp version
and an up to date norton antivirus (i dont know if all that is relevant
i also realized that this problem started when i downloaded windows live messenger, could they be incompatible softwares??
can i fix the problem and keep both nvidia and msn live or do i have to get rid of one ?
    thank you for your help

    Certainly :)

Open the forum on this page most appropriate to your problem (if you choose the wrong forum your thread will be moved by a Moderator to the right one), double click on the forum link, e.g. Windows XP.

When the forum list opens click on the New thread button at the top left/bottom left of the forum list.

A message pane will open - give your thread a meaningful title - Help or XP problem is not meaningful - get the gist? Look at other thread titles for examples.

Type your message in the message pane - use the Preview button to preview how it will look if you wish and then hit the Submit button.

As a new member with <10 posts if you post a thread containing a URL you will not see your post until it has been approved by a Moderator, so please do not repeat your post when your post if it does not immediately appear when it contains a URL..

You will not be without a firewall. If you are not running a third party firewall such as Norton (ugh!) or Comodo etc Windows firewall will be active. You can check this in Control Panel > Security Centre.

nVidia Network Access Manager is troublesome and basically not needed.

If the problem started with the installation of Windows Live Mail (which I do not use) the odds are that there is a conflict.
I can't answer that directly, but I would remove nVidia NAM and see if the problem is resolved. It can easily be reinstalled, but I suspect that it will not be necessary.
