I want to replace a few system files. Thought I'd use SFC/scannow to check for some that were deleted. I inserted my Windows XP SP2 Home Ed. install CD before Start > Run SFC /scannow. For every potential file replacement, I was prompted that I had inserted the wrong CD and that I need to insert Windows XP SP2 Professional Edition.

I don't have the Pro edition. I didn't Activate the Pro edition. Why doesn't SFC recognize my XP SP2 Home Ed. CD?

I tried redirecting System File Checker to the Driver Cache on my hard drive. There must be another setting in my registry that overrides changing the SourcePath to C:\Windows\Driver Cache\i386.

SFC is still prompting me to insert Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 CD.

Does anybody have any clues? I'm running Win XP SP2 Home Ed. When I insert that CD, I get an error message saying that the correct CD is the wrong one and SFC wants the Prof Ed.

I can't really trubleshoot another problem I have until this one is resolved.

Thanks for reposting that link. Somehow I missed it the first time. I will definately try it. I have another problem which is making me nuts. I won't mention it, as I don't want to introduce another topic in this thread. If the information resourses I am currently using don't bring about a resolution, I will definatly post it in another topic.

    Thanks in advance.
