help please cd player will not read data

Well I got the blue screen of death had to reload windows.
Now the problem all of my back ups are on cd .
Now I can no longer read data files from previous burnt CDs
And I can not save data to a cd-r
when I try this I get incorrect function and D you don't have access to this folder.

It does play burnt music cds,music cds and factory cds ie windows reload cds etc
just not data cds.

I installed another cd burner same problem.

Help I need this data

If this has been discussed before I'm sorry

Do your remember what cd burning software was installed before you formated? Nero or DLA or Roxio perhaps?

If your computer is a Lenova or IBM it would have likely been DLA!

And do you remember having to format the CD's before copying data to them so you could copy to theses as a floppy?

Sorry I,m running a dell 4600 with windows xp home It has the software on it it came with sonic,dell music match juke box,Dell media experience, I down loaded windows media player 11, Also has I tunes (apple) for the kids Ipod And I tryed nero after the fact didn't help.

I also have Mcafee installed.

Note: The enable box is checked to allow recording for the CD

Read all about how to run Deckard (DSS) then download Deckard.

Run Deckard. Copy the logs (Main and then extra) and paste back here.

Hold down lft mouse button and drag accross the next 2 lines. When they are highlighted rt click on the highlighted and lft click copy

No issues pertaining to your issue in the DSS log, was there not an Extra.log?

Next step to attempt to repair is to reset/re-install the CD/DVD drivers.

to do this

copy the next line for pasting

devmmgmt.msc

Start-Run

paste to run and click OK!

1st
look in the tree and let us know if you have any red X's or yellow exclamation points "! ".

2nd
click the + by the dvd/cd-rom drives entry
it will open and show dvd devices
rt click and un-install any devices here should be 1 or 2.

close all to desktop and retart your computer

recheck with the devmmgmt.msc to confirm windows re-installed the devices and are there changes here

now check for the problem and see if it has changed

first question will the cds read on another cd reader ?
If they do then the cds are fine
If you have a working system restore see if you cannot restore it to a previous date - before problems. Maybe as far back as you can go in time without distruption to necessary programs
Go into device manager uninstall the driver for the cd
Ignore warnings > reboot
It will reinstall the driver for the cd
You might want to reset the bios to factory defaults
If you are allowed into the computer case ( warranty ?)
Unplug computer
Take cables off the drives
Mark them with felt pen if you are new to this
Boot up with no cables attached
Turn off
Unplug
Add one ribbon to a drive at a time and reboot one at time
Then shut off and add the next one
If you go into your bios check that the drives are being seen in the bios
First step is to check if the cds read in another computer

It is your filter drivers.

Read about them here then download the Filtercheck and Filterfix utilities.

In filterfix.exe be sure to chose Optical drives and then search registry for filters.

Since you are dead in the water anyway can't hurt anyway, so clear them with FilterFix and reboot.
