Cannot see other PCs in workgroup

I bought a new PC yesterday with Vista on it and set it up as a specific workgroup 'GSTRYDER' and have 1 windows 98 and 1 WinXP machine with the same workgroup name attached to my router. At first I could see the 2 other machines and access their shared drives, but now after rebooting it no longer shows the 2 other machines when I look in 'Network'. The other machines see this one which I've named "Stryder" but when I click on the icon in Network Neighbourhood it says the name doesnt exist EVEN though it has put it in the NN list?? When I try pinging the IP addys of the first two older machines all 3 machines can ping them BUT none of the 3 can ping THIS vista IP address even though it shows up when I IPCONFIG on the vista machine.

When I look in "Network and sharing center" I have Gstryder as the workgroup name, and it is setup as a 'Private Network'. Under "Sharing and discovery ", 'Network Discovery' is ON as well as 'File Sharing' .. but neither of the other two machines show up now when I click on the Gstryder icon in "Network and sharing center ". I am at a loss at how to fix this

Anyone have any suggestions as to how I can get workgroup to work?

 

Also when I click on Network Map I get an error message in the window "Windows cannot create a network map for the selected type of network connection ". The connection is Private.. it gives teh same error if I change it to public and as those are the only 2 options Im still at a loss.

 

As you are sharing with a Vista machine, you may need to install the Link Layer Topology Discovery (LLTD) Responder on the XP machine http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...1D-EE46-481E-BA11-37F485FA34EA&displaylang=en

Also, Windows firewall is normally set to allow file and printer sharing but if you have a third-party firewall make sure that it allows access so that each machine can talk to the other(s).
