I'm helping out a friend that has a service center. They use a program for printing out invoices that causes a bit of a problem with their printer. They are only able to print multiple copies successfully, if and only if the collate function is disabled. If the print job is sent with the collate function on, the printer freaks out and starts printing duplicates several minutes later on its own. I know it sounds weird but that's the situation. I need to know if there is a registry key I can modify in Windows XP to disable the collate function by default when multiple copies are selected for a printer. I can not find an option to disable it from the printer driver. The printer is an HP Laserjet 2420 if this helps at all.

It could be that the software the use just can't deal with the collate function. Might touch base with their support department.

Would help if you tried an entirely different make and model printer.

I already called the support for the software. The software uses the windows printing system. The setting is windows specific.

Review the following Microsoft Developer Network ... Print Dialog Box. See the following snip ...
I'm not sure if this is a solution. It appears it edits the print dialog box for network printers. It may be possible to create an printer environment which disables "Collate" as a default setting. Please allow our wbbs staff to review this suggestion prior to implementation.
