I received an e-mail from a friend in Japan but have no idea how to
get it to show as english or how to convert it.

I copied a bit of it and dropped it into babel 's web site but no help there.

Question: How do i get firefox the ability to reconize japanese and do
    a conversion into english?

    Thanks,
    savagcl

    Westside, thanks for the lead.

I got Japanese characters to show for Japanese web sites but not for
    my e-mails.
Maybe using comcast for e-mails is the problem..........

    clif,

In Thunderbird: View Tab | Character Encoding | More Encoding | East Asian

    Try the Japanese ISO-2022-JP

I didnt have T-Bird but got it loaded and setup.
I sent myself a email with japanese characters and after turning on the
encoding it did show as japanese. Using the babel site i was able to get
it translated into english again. Making progress!

One more, if i may, Anyone know of a site having software (preferably free)
that will let me convert a full email, message, etc instead of the limited
    number of characters via babel?

    Thanks a whole bunch,
    savagcl

Westside, It did work for japanese web sites but the comcast email still
showed many strange characters. Still working it tho because the problem
could be me! (not an unusal condition) ;)

Ramona, thanks for the link, i'll check it out.

    appreciate the help,
    savagcl
