Periodically my OE just balks & won’t do anything.
I’m on a cable modem with XP
& have Kaspersky Anti Virus 7.0.0.124.
It will throw a fit for 5-10 min & be ok for a day or so. Restart doesn’t help.
    Does anybody have ideas?
    Thanks
This seems to be the info on it -
    Outlook Express - 6.00.2900.2180(xpsp-sp2rtm.040803-2158
& this info on IE -
    Internet Explorer -
    Version: 7.0.5730.11
    Cipher Strength: 128 bit
    Product ID: 84876-600-0046963-94444
    Update Versions: 0
I have no problems with it.

Wilbur - Welcome to the Board :)

OE can play funny when the files containing the emails approach a certain size - the limit is 2 Gb, but strange behaviour can occur long before that limit is reached.

Search your drive (enable search hidden files and folders) for *.dbx files. You should find a whole rook of them - InBox.dbx, OutBox.dbx, Sent Items.dbx, etc plus any folders you have created. What are the sizes of the largest ones?

Post back with that info. and we'll know if there is a potential problem with folder size.

Also take a look at An Outlook Express basic repair kit

Delete the Temporary Internet files as instructed and Reregister OE and it's associated library files.

Do not Compact all folders or Create a new identity.

My .dbx files range from under 100 KB to over 86,000 KB (pictures) but most are under 200 KB. I seem to have 279 of them. I deleted Temporary Internet files as per the Outlook Express basic repair kit & that seemed to help.
    Thanks

No problem with the file sizes. but 279 files - do they all show up as folders in OE? - have you re-registered OE and it's library files as outlined in the article?

I guess they do. They're all in the Search Results list. When I ran msimn/reg it said it couldn't find it. Outlook Express is already chosen in both Mail & Newsgroups. I'm afraid to do too much. I'm going to leave it alone awhile & see what happens. I know just enough about this to be dangerous.
    Thanks
