Just bought new computer with win. xp installed. Installed my scanner cd (vistascan). When I try to run the program, says it can't find my scanner. Went on the windows page, but I don't understand what WIA drivers are. My scanner is listed, so does anyone know if there is a driver I can intall?

    Thanks!

There are two models of Astra 2200.
A usb model and a scsi model, could you please state which
model you have? Also what version of XP are you using, home or pro?

WIA is "Windows Image Acquisition" software built into Windows XP. It should provide very basic scanning functionality.

Depending on the answers to the questions above I will help you to find and install the software properly. Umax software is a bit of a pain to install on XP but once done works as expected.
    I will await your reply.

None of my graphics programs will find my Epson Perfection 1200S (SCSI) scanner unless it is already powered up when I start the computer. This was not true under Win9x, but seems to be a requirement under WinXP Pro.

    info requested

Hi, thanks everyone for answering. My scaner is USB and my XP is home edition. BtW I do leave it powered on, so I don't think that's the problem. Thanks in advance for your help!

    Veni :)

you will need to download the following files

    http://www.umaxweb.de/ftp/vs355u.exe

    http://www.umaxtech.de/ftp/2xxx_XP_upd.exe

Disconnect your scanner from the computer and from the power supply.

Uninstall any software you have previously installed for it and reboot.

Check to make sure nothing is left of the program(s) and that
your scanner no longer appears in the device manager.
If it still shows in device manager remove it and reboot.
Repeat above step, if everything is gone shut done computer.

Logon as administrator. Install all software first, before re-connecting scanner.

Install vs355u.exe first, then do the update file.
    Shut down computer.
Plug the power in for the scanner wait at least 30 seconds then hook up the usb cable then boot your computer.

You should now have a notice of new hardware found and MS XP
    should get the right driver.

Go to device manager find your scanner under imaging device
and select properties / driver. Is it using a umax driver or still the MS built in? If it's still using the MS one select update driver and choose the option "Install from a list or specific location" . Browse to the .inf file (see next line for instructions)
During the set-up file extraction of vs355u you will have a number of disk files created, look inside the folder of disk 6 for a sub-folder
called U12x0 open it and here you will find inf file and dll files.
this inf file is what you want installed.

If you don't have XP set up to show file extensions please do so first. Makes it easier to find the .inf file.

Optional: to install MagicMatch calibration profiles copy the folders (MONITOR, PRINTER, SCANNER) from the folder PROFILES of the original driver CD into the folder PROFILES of the downloaded and expanded current driver on your hard disk and select the appropriate components in the setup dialog.

    Hope this helps you out.

    P.S. book mark this site
    http://www.umax.co.uk/support/default.htm

Only english site I have found where you can still download drivers and software FREE. Umax USA now charge for their software and ship it on CD only.
