    Hi all,

This has probably been asked before, but I've just spent over an hour trying to Google for an answer, with no luck.

This is the second time in two weeks this has happened. the first time, when I had a folder open, and I clicked "Edit" to probably copy and then paste something, the Edit Menu had only about 3 or 4 options and none of them applied to what I was trying to do (I didn't write them down, sorry).

Since I didn't know what else to do, I did a System Restore and it worked fine again.

Today, again I was trying to copy and paste a file, well, I was able to select a file and click copy, but then in the right click context menu there was no paste option. So I opened the folder I wanted to paste it in and paste was greyed out along with everything else except Select All and Invert Selection, and one other option (I can't remember which).

Since this seems to be a repeating problem now, I don't want to keep doing System Restore every few days.

What I've been doing since the problem started: Using a program called AutoGordianKnot to encode video from damaged DVD files. This program is freeware, free of viruses and it's recommended by the major video forum on the web.

Also, I've been using an OEM version of Nero which came with other DVD/CD burners I bought in the past for my Win2K computer, which lately crashes when I select certain files to make back ups on DVD-R media (usually Windows Explorer used to crash on the Win2K computer when I'd click on certain media files and with the help of a great person here, he determined from the error log that a certain codec was to blame and once I deleted that codec, the problem cleared up - but I don't see how that could be the case when adding media files to a back up job in Nero.).

I'm running a Dell Pentium 4, Windows XP Pro Service Pack 2, completely updated except for Windows Media Player which I never use, and IE 7 which I won't install. I have about 512 MB (SD?)RAM.

Did I leave anything out? How can I get Edit in my folders to work properly again?

    So many thanks,
    Gail

When I want to copy and paste something I just highlight the text with the mouse or I use "select all" then I use the keyboard to hit ctl and C. to copy. and then when I want to paste it I use ctl key and V.

Can't help you on the other issues you wrote about.

    Hi Gary,

Thank you for those tips! I don't know why, but the Edit menu is working fine again now, and I didn't do anything or change anything. So I really don't know why it didn't work those two times. Next time it happens, I will try your method.

    Many thanks,
    Gail
